Barley Purchases 1894-1922

It is amazing what information is out there regarding lost distilleries if we have the time to track these down. My thanks to Mark Davidson (aka Jolly Toper) for providing this gem of a table that was published in the PhD of R.B. Weir, in 1971.

What it shows us is how much barley (local and foreign) Glen Mhor was consuming over a prolonged period. This dates from the very first years at the distillery, right up until the reductions of the First World War (note no foreign barley in 1914-1915). There's much to investigate in this table including coming up with a formula to somewhat guess the annual production at Glen Mhor during this early period.

Fascinating stuff!

And by its very existence, confirmation that there are detailed records out there, somewhere.
